Terms of Service

1. What Atlas is

Atlas is a research project: a game engine and AI training pipeline for the boardgames Catan and Landover. The engine learns by playing itself across many contributor computers and periodically retraining a neural network. Catan is a trademark of Catan GmbH; we are not affiliated with Catan GmbH. Atlas is an independent re-implementation of the rules for research purposes.

2. Acceptable use

• Don’t abuse the API. Don’t submit fabricated trajectories; the server replay-verifies submissions and rejects bad data.
• Don’t attempt to gain unauthorized access (e.g. by guessing admin keys, exploiting endpoints, or scraping at abusive volume).
• Don’t use the Service to host or distribute illegal content.
• Don’t choose a nodeIdthat contains hate speech, others’ personal information, or other content we judge inappropriate. We may rename or remove such labels.

3. Worker contributions

When you run an Atlas worker on your machine, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use the game data your worker uploads for training, evaluation, and publication of trained models. You retain no ownership claim over the uploaded games (they are reproducible from the seed and would be the same regardless of who ran the worker).

The cost of running a worker (electricity, bandwidth, CPU time) is entirely your own. We make no warranty that contributing meaningfully improves the engine in any specific timeframe.

4. Source code

The Atlas source code is not currently publicly distributed. The worker and trainer binaries you download from downloads.landover.io are licensed to you solely for the purpose of contributing game data to this Service. You may not redistribute, decompile, or reverse-engineer the binaries.

5. No warranty

The Service is provided on an “as is” basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, VexHex Games, Inc. and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including damage to your equipment, lost data, or business interruption.

7. Termination

We may suspend access to the API, contributor keys, or any other part of the Service at any time for any reason — including abuse, suspected abuse, or to perform maintenance. You may stop using the Service at any time by closing the website tab or stopping your worker process.

8. Changes

We may revise these terms. Continued use after a revision constitutes acceptance of the new terms. Material changes will be noted on this page; the last-updated date reflects the most recent revision.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. The exclusive jurisdiction and venue for any dispute arising under these terms shall be the state or federal courts located in Delaware.
